 Youth and Family Ministry Position Description
Immanuel Lutheran Church, Princeton, MN

The mission of the Immanuel youth and family ministry is to work in partnership with our youth and families to grow in faith by learning about God's word, by Christian service in our local and global community, and by experiencing healthy relationships with each other through Christ Jesus.

Competencies and Skills Desired:

1. Strong personal faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to the Lutheran Confessions and the teachings of the ELCA.
2. Minimum of B.A. or equivalent.
3. Membership in Immanuel Lutheran Church.
4. Experience in congregational youth ministry.
5. Self-motivated with strong organizational and administrative abilities.
6. Ability to develop, communicate and implement long-term vision.
7. Connect intergenerationally with youth, parents, and other adults.
8. Experience in recruiting and training volunteers.
9. Willingness to comply with a background check and other volunteer screening for safety and security of youth; possess valid driver's license.
10. Continually seeks personal spiritual growth opportunities.
11. Committed to professional training and learning.
12. Ability to develop and respect personal boundaries.
13. Musical competency desired but not required.

Position Summaries:

Youth Ministry:
1. Strengthens interpersonal Christian relationships among and between the youth and the congregation as a whole.
2. Develops appropriate relationships with youth and their families and helps establish Biblical guidelines for behavior.
3. Provides counseling and crisis help and/or referrals.
4. Recruits and trains volunteer youth leaders, and facilitate youth board meetings.
5. Provides spiritual growth opportunities for youth.
6. Plans and implements age appropriate activities that promote faith development, such as service projects, Bible studies, summer camping opportunities, and retreats.
7. Communicate ministry opportunities to the congregation through various means.

Christian Education:
1. Coordinates Sunday school, providing a sound curriculum that is relevant and appealing to the youth.
2. Recruits, trains, supports and supervises Sunday School teaching staff.
3. Coordinates Vacation Bible School including recruiting, training, and supervising staff.
4. Teaches and coordinates confirmation classes, working closely with the pastor.
5. Leads small groups to promote faith development.

Community Youth Outreach:
1. Coordinates after school program.
2. Fosters service opportunities for various age levels.

Accountability, Salary, and Compensation:

1. The congregation's pastor is the direct supervisor of this position, with the congregational council bearing secondary responsibility.
2. Applicant will work directly with and be accountable to the Board for Youth and Family Ministries to plan, coordinate, and evaluate programs and events.
3. Applicant is to attend weekly staff meetings and monthly congregational council meetings.
4. An annual evaluation of employment and ministry issues will be done by the Personnel committee.
5. Salary will be within Northeastern Minnesota Synod Guidelines, taking into account training and experience.
6. Medical and dental benefits will be provided.
7. Paid vacation, personal, and family medical leave will be provided.
8. Continuing education leave and allowance will be provided.
9. Relocation allowance will be provided.
